Meet BGR! Digital Content Creator, Shannon Shelton Miller!
Q: What’s your favorite part about the writing process?
A: I love storytelling. For me, storytelling is the process of gathering information and sharing it with others in a way that’s interesting and accessible.
Q: Where do you get your ideas for content that you write for Black Girls Run?
A: I focus a lot on my own running journey and share some of those experiences for each BGR! blog. My content is pretty fitness/running focused, although I look forward to taking a broader look at health and wellness for Black women in general.
Q: What do you enjoy most about writing for Black Girls Run?
A: I am thrilled to just have the opportunity to reach out to other Black women who like to run.
Q: What was your best running experience?
A: In 2008, I was the top female finisher in the National Association of Black Journalists 5K in Chicago and won a small trophy. I wasn’t too far behind the male finisher either!
Q: What was your favorite race that you participated in?
A: I ran the first leg (7 miles) of the Detroit Free Press marathon relay. It was awesome because you start the race in downtown Detroit and run into Windsor, Ontario, Canada, over the Ambassador Bridge.
Q: Why did you start running?
A: I wanted to be on a team when I was in high school and since I can’t throw, kick or catch a ball, running was the next best thing. I wasn’t too bad at it either.
Q: What do you like to do for self-care?
A: I love afternoons at the spa and meditation.
Q: What is your favorite healthy snack?
A: Dried apricots.
Q: What is one fun fact about you?
A: I’ve written thousands of articles for national newspapers and magazines and edited a book.
