What does running the Chicago Marathon mean to you?
Running the Chicago Marathon represents how far I’ve come in trusting my body again. After being diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes in 2021, I had to relearn what strength looked like for me. Every mile I run now is a reminder that I am capable, resilient, and not defined by my diagnosis. Chicago is more than a race; it’s a celebration of growth, healing, and choosing to believe in what’s possible.
What are you most looking forward to about this race?
I’m most looking forward to the energy of the city and the power of running alongside a community of women who uplift and inspire each other. There’s something incredibly special about being surrounded by people who understand the journey and who show up with strength, joy, and purpose. I’m also excited to experience Chicago through this lens and create another unforgettable moment in my running journey.
Why Black Girls RUN!?
Black Girls RUN! represents community, empowerment, and access. It creates space for women to feel seen, supported, and confident in their movement journeys no matter where they’re starting from. As someone who found running later in life and after a life-changing diagnosis, that kind of representation and support matters deeply to me. Running with Black Girls RUN! is an opportunity to not only challenge myself, but to inspire others, especially those living with chronic conditions, to believe that they belong in these spaces too. I have met and connected so many amazing BGR! members at local races since joining. I love how we support each other. This community is very special to me.
