What does running mean to you?

The Chicago Marathon is more than a race—it’s a celebration of transformation. As a 49-year-old Black woman, once weighed down by self-doubt and extra pounds, I found strength, purpose, and joy in running. I run to be an example for my children and grandchildren, and I’m fueled by the unwavering support of my amazing spouse and the love of the running community. I’ll be turning 50 just before the marathon, and there’s no better way to celebrate this chapter than by doing what I love—strong, proud, and deeply grateful.

What are you looking forward to most about this race?

Finishing strong!!!

Why Black Girls RUN!?

Because I found a community that not only looks like me, but is also diverse and welcoming.

From city streets to overseas trails, BGR! shows up and shows out with love, energy, and sisterhood. No matter where I go, I’m never alone on the pavement. We motivate each other, push each other, and celebrate every mile together.

That’s why I chose Black Girls RUN!—because we are a force to be reckoned with.
