: A Newark, NJ native, I moved to Charlotte, NC in 1992 and attended Johnson C. Smith University. I’m a published author and licensed N.C. Real Estate Broker. I started my fitness journey last June when the lbs started adding up and I was unable to fit any of my clothing; therefore, buying another wardrobe was NOT an option. I started off with BGR! in the c25k program and found my joy for running again. I have been very active in the Charlotte BGR! Chapter ever since. I have encouraged my friends and family across the US to become members in their city as well. I am excited about this second go round blog journey to hopefully to inspire others to join the BGR! movement. You can follow Akilah's blog

: I am Sanpri Purdy-Porter, and I started running with BGR! Charlotte approximately 2 years ago as a way to compliment my weight loss journey. I met my weight loss goal in September 2012, with a total weight loss of 80 lbs! I made a goal for myself to run a 5K without stopping. I did it…and since then I have successfully completed 3-5Ks, 2-10Ks, 1-8K, 2-Half Marathons, and a Marathon relay. Running not only helps me to keep the weight off, but it has been my sanctuary and has given me a better outlook on life! Follow her on Facebook
